Subject: [Local Food List] Its most important element should be discussion about the food being served: where and how it was grown or raised
Organic Valley promotes 'Earth Dinners'
By Ann Bagel Storck on 4/6/2007 for Meatingplace.com
The classic American holiday dinners might still belong to Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter, but organic co-op Organic Valley, along with other organizations, is trying to start a new tradition: an "Earth Dinner" to celebrate Earth Day, April 22.
Organic Valley is offering an online Earth Dinner toolkit including menu and recipe ideas as well as the opportunity to request monetary grants for those hosting Earth Dinner events for groups.
The La Farge, Wis.-based organic farmer co-op is emphasizing that while the menu for an Earth Dinner can vary, its most important element should be discussion about the food being served: where and how it was grown or raised, and how it connects to each diner's personal history.

The GTA Local Food List is made up of those interested in the growing importance of local food as a choice for many consumers and the possibilities of near-urban agriculture supplying local food choices. The intent of this list is to circulate one news story, essay or book review per day that provides insight into programs and polices that will enhance local food systems and near-urban agriculture. The GTA Local Food List is a project of the Greater Toronto Area Agricultural Action Committee: www.gtalocalfood.ca. Elbert van Donkersgoed moderates this list.
