John,

I must say I was shocked at the subject title "Expropriation - if we are to get 
serious about RE-Development/Intensification", which does not seem to 
come from the Globe and Mail story being quoted.

Having governments expropriate family-owned businesses so as to increase 
the value of land owned by large developers?  To build a big box store?  
Whose idea is that expropriation suggestion?

If at least it could be shown that large scale redevelopment has some 
environmental advantage over the smaller buildings that stand there.  In 
fact, the opposite is very often true.
