Just in case you missed it? We still have anti-nuclear activists here in the province of Ontario. We are proud to report the valiant efforts by one such brave anti- nuclear power activist Donna Dillman, who has been on a hunger strike since Thanksgiving day, October 8th. Dillman's act of non-violent direct action is protesting plans at Charbot Lake, Ontario to prospect for a uranium mine up wind from where her grandchildren live. "We can live for a long time without food," she says, "but we cannot live without clean water".  Uranium is a poor bandaid for our non- sustainable energy system. If we allow our governments to drag us down that route, when the uranium is mined out, the grandchildren will be saddled with the challenge of developing sustainable energy systems. They will have far less conventional energy with which to develop renewable systems, and they would, in addition, have to deal with increased background radiation and radioactive hot-spots that would be hazardous for a thousands generations. You can help Donna confront the interests vested in nuclear by writing to: Premier Dalton McGuinty Main Legislative BuildingRoom 281, Queens ParkToronto, ON, CanadaM7A 1A1 Letters from within and without Ontario will all help impress upon the Premier that nuclear is a mistake. At least, to bring Donna home, we need an agreement for an open public inquiry into the merits, costs and hazards of nuclear exploration and mining.
