Thanks for posting your opinions and other positions and independent views on the electoral systems we have.
While I agree with the point that politicians have big uncontrollable egos and it is a problem when it comes to accountability, I would like to suggest to everyone here that the powers we the people believe them to posses actually are NOT theirs at all to access and apply willingly.
The REAL overlords who control our systems of governance are actually way above the heads of those whom we elect every 4- 5 yrs. Much to our dismay those powers lay currently in the hands of unelected transnational corporations and elitist special interests. They control everything from prices of resources and manufactured goods to what information/disinformation they allow us to access.
The levels of uncontrolled acquisitions and mergers of these GIGANTIC MONOPOLIES that crept into existence in small increments and summarily accelerated in the late 80's by right wing puppet script readers like Ronald McReagan and Mike 'the knife' / ' Mean Spirited' Harris in Ontario - have given the profiteers freedom to move labour sources and commodities whenever their whim sees fit.( See Burma )They therefore locate in places where politicians accommodate their demands. They locate in areas such as those with lax environmental laws and labour rights. They literally play nations and their communities against each other until they get willing submission of those we assume are elected by us to serve and protect our best interests.
If we want this monkey off our backs we'd best see fit to reinstate genuine green parties or UN PARTY-PARTY POLITICAL PARTIES who don't do politics as usual and therefore do not have hierarchies in them as per traditional top down parties which are easily hijacked by those unscrupulous corporate MONSTERS.
Furthermore, since information is power I'd also suggest that those WHO ARE BY DEFAULT keepers of information distribution in the 'FREE PRESS' also be subject to election since those who control the information also inevitably control the sheeple - what they think and unfortunately for us & them what and where they can graze...
NOTE in regards to our October 10th referendum question ( which was poorly worded on purpose) Any system or referendum which proposes proportional representation IMO gives us less chance of the public opting for FEAR VOTING or strategic voting. People should be allowed and encouraged to choose a party for what they like about them and NOT vote out of fear of something evil lurking in the alternative.
While I would agree that the MMP idea wasn't perfect at all - it would have been a baby step start towards the accountability and good system of governance we all collectively seek for ourselves and those communities we live in.
After all in a "democratic society" like ours is it not our common goal to progress and in a sense RISK MORE DEMOCRACY?
