Waterloo Region - Come celebrate Earth Day with a sumptuous feast of local cuisine. The Waterloo Region Chef's Association in and Foodlink Waterloo Region will present its first ever President's Gala Dinner and Chef Auction on Thursday, April 24 at the Walper Terrace Hotel in the Crystal Ballroom.
The elegant five-course dinner will be prepared by area chefs and feature many fine foods from Buy Local! Buy Fresh! farms in Waterloo Region. The dining experience will also include a champagne reception and special wine pairings.
The Earth Day theme will resonate strongly throughout the multicourse dinner incorporating the elements of earth, water, air and land. The culinary event will showcase such local delights as Puree of Celeriac and Russets, Smoked Arctic Char, Pheasant Galantine, and Black Angus Beef Tenderloin wrapped with Wild Boar Prosciutto. A variety of accompaniments such as local greenhouse tomatoes, green beans, root vegetables and local cheese and cream will also figure prominently. The fanciful spread will be capped with a dessert of crepes made with local apples, home-made ice cream and local maple syrup.
Chef Dean Michielsen, President of the Waterloo Chef's Association, is very excited by all that the event will offer. "What better way to celebrate Earth Day than by creating an awareness of what is grown in our own backyard," says Michielsen acknowledging the efforts of both the local farmers who produce the food and the chefs who will be preparing it.
"We're delighted to continue our partnerships with local chefs and restaurants," says Peter Katona, Executive Director of Foodlink, adding that the event allows "our great local food to shine."
In addition to enjoying the delectable spread, guests will have an opportunity to participate in a live chef auction. The successful bidder will win the full services of a top chef who will come to their home and prepare a customized dinner for up to eight people.
Proceeds from the President's Gala will go towards the Waterloo Region Chef's Association and Foodlink Waterloo Region, whose primary mandate is to support local farms.
Tickets for the event dinner are $85 or two for $150. They can be purchased online via PayPal at www.foodlink.ca or at various locations throughout the city.
