The prettiest urban sprawl in Canada?
Brant County's Official Plan is under review. This plan dictates the extent and nature of development in Brant County for the next 5 years. This is particularly important now that we find ourselves beyond the greenbelt zone and a declared growth area.
This website advocates that all development should :
a.. ensure the protection of our many natural resources
b.. safeguard prime farmland and widen access to local food supply
c.. foster communities that integrate new neighbourhoods into the existing social fabric.
That is not the same as saying there should be no development or that there should be no industry in Brant County - just that we need to adopt a different idea of development than has been seen for the past 50 years. That is, we build and expand self-contained towns and villages instead of allowing sprawling sub-divisions where everyone has to drive (or be driven) to go anywhere.
We invite you to explore this site and follow the links to see how we can encourage a healthier, more sustainable Brant County.
The OSGN gave this presentation in Paris on Sept. 19, 2007
