Please forward. Apologies for cross-postings.

Greetings!

I'm writing on behalf of the Toronto Cyclists Union (www.bikeunion.to), a new membership-based cycling organization that focuses its efforts on advocacy, promotion and awareness programs.

One of the exciting initiatives that the Union has created is a ward-based advocacy program. The program is currently in need of at least one "Ward Captain" within each city ward. The Captain's role will be to recruit Union members living in their wards to attend relevant meetings, engage with local media and participate in other activities that support cycling. Captains will not be expected to be present at every community meeting but they will be responsible for getting cyclists living in their wards to attend/participate. The Union will be assisting Captains with this task and will also offer training and workshops to help them do their job effectively.

The Union's challenge at this time is to find Captains outside of the traditional active cycling communities in the downtown core (Wards 14, 18, 19, 20, 21, 27, 28, 30, 32). If you happen to live in one of the other wards, would you be willing to take on the role of Ward Captain? If so, please sign up for the free Bike Union newsletter on the website, fill in which ward you live in, and indicate whether you would volunteer as a Ward Captain. You will be invited to the first Ward Captain meeting taking place on Sunday afternoon, March 2nd. If you do not live in one of these wards, but know someone who does, please forward this email to them. And if you have any questions, contact Anthony Humphreys, the Ward Advocacy Coordinator, at anthony at bikeunion.to .

There are other opportunities to get involved so please visit the Bike Union's website for further information.

Thanks!

Marty Collier
