social services, recreation and education infrastructure (you may think of other aspects also, such as grocery stores to avoid "food deserts) should/would be able to be required by urban planners on our behalf! But how to do it wisely and effectively without the bureaucratic ineptitude!!?? Especially the intrusion of the OMB!!

- This is a rather more paradoxical tale now unfolding on a steadily changing strip of Kingston Road in the Upper Beaches where an increasingly desirable neighbourhood - ka-ching! said the local real-estate agents when a Starbucks opened before Christmas - is about to see some of its very desirable community services traded off for more remunerative land uses.
- "One of the nicest things was that it was all within walking distance. This is a walking community," she says. "I have a friend in Etobicoke and she drives the kids everywhere. I don't want to do that."
The fact that so much is within walking distance is, of course, what makes the squat, one-storey building an attractive redevelopment site.
