Subject: FW: What's the Story?

View this great little twenty minute video on 'stuff' and the tread-mill ('dead-mill') we are currently on like rats on a wheel in a cage...this system is a 'dead end' for our planet and ourselves. It's time to get off, lift the latch on the door of the cage and escape outside into nature, where we come from, and where we belong!

Please pass this website along http://storyofstuff.com/ to friends and family.

I encourage everyone to not buy any more 'stuff'...instead, if you need to buy anything, buy 'staff'. The people behind our system are what matter in the system. So, only buying local goods and services helps the most as you can then influence and support those who are your neighbours, friends, family and the business owners themselves.

Ask the store staff where the 'stuff' they sell is coming from...if it's not locally-made from a company who supports local businesses, it's then a 'stuff'-supported, not a 'staff'-supported' business. Ask that they buy locally-made items only...if it's like most items, it is made of the natural resources that we can find here in Canada, and Ontario can produce most anything. Our manufacturing sector needs to transform itself to produce local, high quality products...but we consumers need to ASK for them!!! That is very important. And we also need to REFUSE to buy anything else! That's not easy, but can be done. There are 'green consumer' websites out there.

There are very few items that can only be produced overseas, like bamboo products from China. What they produce in China, we can produce here, if we absolutely need to. We need to ask ourselves, why we are exporting our pollution and stress to them. That is not healthy for their staff (people or wildlife or environment) any more than it is for ours. It is only the multi-national corporations and corrupt/self-serving governments that are truely profiting! The Chinese are being enslaved by industrial urbanization, just as we have been, only worse, as they have no power of democracy to stop the onslaught! We, as consumers, are causing enslavement into this system and the rampant corruption, degradation and pollution in the world!

The faster we can re-localize into small communities that are self-sufficient, the faster we can get off the 'dead-mill' before we expire like exhausted rats. With re-localizing our product development, design, and manufacturing, there will be an exponential reduction in waste.

The 'economies of scale' is an exponential growth scale. It also is a fallacy when manufacturers says it 'saves' them money. Like anything, it takes more energy to ship everything around the world, causing more emissions and urbanization infrastructure like highways and urban and suburban ghettos to keep the 'dead-mill' running. And these costs are ignored by these businesses and 'externalized' onto the environment and people, as taxpayers and citizens!

Only a business that externalizes all the real costs of production will be able to make the claim that 'economies of scale' work for them, meaning the bigger they get, the more pull they have with government to bail them out with corporate welfare and the more stuff they can produce to ship around the world to grow into not just big, but HUGE money-making, soul-killing 'dead-mill' machines, externalizing their costs all along the way. 'Economies of scale' is an argument only for businesses that see the 'growth mandate' as their only mandate!

And if you can't find a business that is local staff-supported, then buy recycled or second-hand. At least you won't be contributing any more waste to our environment and most re-cycled stuff (re-stuff) is locally derived, so you can re-stuff your pockets with the money you save...and your soul with the lives you save! Or better yet, ask if you really NEED this thing you desire, or just WANT it...and then don't buy it and see how you feel. I bet you'll forget about it the next day.

And one more thing, this 'urban reserve' we are all living in, much like the aboriginals that are stuck on their 'reserves'...it's only an illusion of our making. Reconnect with nature, where we are supposed to be living. It's where we evolved, physically, mentally and spiritually. We've just forgotten that part of our history.

And finally, give back to nature...Mother Earth will thank you by re-staffing your soul with the angels of heaven so that your heart is 'open for business' once again.

Just a few suggestions that we can all take to heart.

Natalie
