The Chinese Canadian National Council Toronto Chapter is non-profit
organization of Chinese Canadians in Toronto that promotes equity, social
justice and inclusive civic participation. Since 1999, CCNCTO has been
working with members of the Alternative Planning Group to identify gaps in
existing planning structures that are creating barriers to the empowerment
and active inter-ethnic participation of Toronto's varied communities in
planning and decision-making; and to articulate outcomes of alternative
social planning to address shortcomings in the current planning system.
CCNCTO is looking for a dynamic individual to manage a research and
community training program related to social inclusion and city building.
The successful candidate will work with closely with the Executive Director
and will be responsible for establishing a volunteer Research and Planning
Committee that will help to guide the program.
Program Manager - Alternative Social Planning
RESPONSIBILITIES:
To conduct the following under supervision by the Executive Director:
. Establish and support a Research and Social Planning Committee comprised
of academic and community members to act as a think-tank and advisory
committee to define and document the needs, goals and aspirations of the
Chinese Canadian community in Toronto
. Develop tools and conduct outreach activities to University and College
classes, to engage them in discussions of social inclusion, alternative
social planning and community based research
. Develop framework to conduct community based research in the Chinese
Canadian community in Toronto
. Develop and conduct a community training program to increase and expand
community visioning, engagement and mobilization by the Chinese Canadian
community in Toronto
. Recruit and screen participants for research and planning committee and
the community training program
. Support training program participants in developing and conducting
community outreach and engagement projects which create opportunities for
social development (i.e. events, forums, roundtables, charettes, etc.)
. Document training program process, evaluation and recommendations for
dissemination
. Produce a position paper related to alternative social planning based on
project findings
. Produce communication materials and work with local and Chinese media
. Assist with organizing an annual fundraising dinner, awards ceremony and
graduation
. Other duties related as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS:
. Post-secondary degree from a recognized university related to social
planning, social work, political science, community development.
. Excellent English written and verbal communication skills is required
. Excellent Chinese written and verbal communication skills is a strong
asset
. Knowledge and experience conducting community outreach and community
development activities
. Knowledge and experience developing and carrying out social planning
research
. Thorough knowledge of Chinese Canadian culture and resources as well as
issues related to Chinese Canadian citizens, immigrants and newcomers
. Excellent interpersonal skills and self-management skills to work
effectively with volunteers, co-workers, community services agencies and
academics
. Excellent group facilitation skills
. Expertise and community experience in anti-oppression and social justice
training
. Experience working in a MS office environment, familiarity with Internet
and databases required
. Demonstrated media skills and familiarity with online English/Chinese
media is an asset
. Knowledge and experience with HTML and updating websites is an asset.
. Knowledge of grant writing, program planning and program evaluation is an
asset
. Ability to work in a fast paced team environment
Other:
Preference will be given to candidates with fluent Chinese (Mandarin or
Cantonese) verbal and written skills.
Duration: Full Time 37.5 hours per week (some evening and weekend work is
required)
Salary: commensurate with experience
