Greater Toronto Area Agricultural Action Committee (GTA AAC)
Project Coordinator (Locally Grown Food)
Three-month contract, full-time or part-time, based in the Greater Toronto Area
GTA AAC
The Greater Toronto Area Agricultural Action Committee is a unique partnership involving the four regional municipalities of Halton, Peel, York and Durham, the four Greater Toronto Area Federations of Agriculture (Halton, Peel, York and Durham), the City of Toronto, Toronto Food Policy Council, Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada, and the food sector. The partnership developed as the various stakeholders worked together to write the GTA Agricultural Action Plan. The 37 actions in the Action Plan are a comprehensive development strategy for a vibrant farm sector in the GTA. Job Description:
The GTA AAC is supporting a number of initiatives this fall that need coordination:
· The participation of GTA farmers in the Savour Ontario Trade website.
· An exhibit for locally grown food at the Royal Agricultural Winter Fair, November 7 to 16 in Toronto.
· An activity, "Great Big Crunch," at the Royal Agricultural Winter Fair.
· Other projects are under discussion.
Each of these initiatives requires contacting farmers and others in the food chain and involvement in the events.
Responsibilities:
· Establish contact with GTA entrepreneurs involved or interested in providing distribution and logistics services to locally grown food.
· Establish contact with GTA farmers involved or interested in marketing their product as locally grown food to those involved in culinary tourism. Support their participation in the Savour Ontario Trade website and other websites promoting locally grown food.
· Establish contact with GTA farmers interested in selling locally grown food as part of the GTA AAC exhibit at the Royal Agricultural Winter Fair. Enable their participation in the exhibit.
· Support the coordination of the daily "Great Big Crunch" at the Royal Agricultural Winter Fair.
Qualifications:
· Experience in a coordinating role
· Excellent communication, organizational and customer service skills, preferably with farmers
· Excellent computer skills and an understanding of website development
· Ability to work independently
· Willingness and ability to work long days during events such as the Royal Agricultural winter Fair
· Willingness and ability to travel to farms and events
· A commitment to supporting the development of locally grown food systems
· Knowledge of the diversity of the Ontario food system an asset
