The Current: Part 3
Diet For a Hungry Planet - Stuffed and Starved
The world of food abounds with troubling paradoxes. There's the puzzling paradox of the North American diet, which simultaneously leaves millions of people overweight and millions of others undernourished. And the tragic irony of so many farmers unable to feed themselves.
Raj Patel lays the blame for those situations squarely at the feet of a global food system that he says has become too beholden to government and corporate interests. Raj Patel is a Fellow at the Institute for Food and Development Policy and is the author of Stuffed and Starved: Markets, Choice and The Battle for The World's Food System. He joined us in Toronto.
Last Word - Cadence Weapon
The 21st annual South-By-Southwest music conference featured more than a thousand musical acts, and the 2008 conferenced featured a large number of Canadians. In fact, one in twelve musicians performing there was Canadian, including Black Mountain, The Constantines, Christine Fellows and Rollie Pemberton. You may know Rollie Pemberton better as Cadence Weapon, a rising hip-hop star from Edmonton enjoying widespread critical acclaim for his new album, Afterparty Babies. We closed this episode with a song from that album. This is Your Hair's Not Clothes.
