The Royal Ontario Museum (ROM) invites the public to experience Green Gastronomy at its c5 and Food Studio restaurants. One Friday per month from April to July, c5 will host a celebrity Ontario chef, a selected regional farmer and vintner to create a superlative dinner and wine menu using local ingredients. They will also discuss their philosophies of sustainable food and wine production. The following Sunday, the same culinary team will create à la carte lunch menu items in Food Studio. The ROM is pleased to welcome Jamie Kennedy, Michael Olson, Nathan Isberg, Bertrand Alépée and Jason Inniss as part of this exciting program.
“Inspired by the Museum’s current feature exhibition, Darwin: The Evolution Revolution, Green Gastronomy is a celebration of the natural world and a display of deep respect for our local and environmental resources,” said Connie MacDonald, Senior Director of Hospitality and Commercial Services at the ROM. “It is also reflective of the ROM’s important dual mandate to educate the public in both natural history and world cultures.”
The Friday Green Gastronomy program in c5 takes place on April 4, May 9, June 6 and July 11. The full evening program, beginning at 6:30 pm, including hors d’oeuvres and a four-course dinner with wine pairing for each course, is $125 plus taxes and gratuities. It is a unique opportunity for the public to experience a gourmet meal created by Chef de Cuisine Ted Corrado along with one of Ontario’s top chefs that reflects a sensitivity to local suppliers and to the land.
Located at the pinnacle of the new Michael Lee-Chin Crystal, c5 merges local and artisanal ingredients with the textures and flavours of Toronto’s diverse cultural fabric to create a unique gastronomical experience. In creating his menus, Corrado draws on the principles of Slow Food, a global movement that recognizes the importance of pleasure connected to food while defending agricultural biodiversity around the world. Reservations are required.
The Sunday Green Gastronomy program in Food Studio takes place on April 6, May 11, June 8 and July 13 from noon to 2 pm. This program is appropriate for the whole family as an occasion to sample à la carte menu items with optional paired wine while learning how chefs, farmers and vintners can work together to support the local agricultural economy, reduce greenhouse emissions and create delicious unique food. Food Studio is the ROM’s casual family restaurant dedicated to providing healthy menu options in an earthfriendly environment. Under the direction of Chef Caesar Guinto, Food Studio sources organic, seasonal ingredients from local Ontario food producers when possible and provides a selection of biodegradable containers and plates as part of its healthy planet initiative.
To make reservations for Green Gastronomy, call 416.586.7928 or visit www.c5restaurant.ca. ROM members call 416.586.8095.
