The Regional Municipality of York has initiated a number of Environmental Assessments for improvements to certain roads in the Town of Markham as part of a larger transportation strategy to increase transit use, manage travel demand and promote alternative modes of travel.
Residents and Markham Council have questioned the need for these projects and how they fit into the overall sustainable transportation strategy for the area. Others have expressed concern about potential adverse impacts on their neighborhoods. Public Information Forums about transportation in Markham will be held to discuss these questions, present improvement options for transportation corridors, explain recent enhancements to the transportation network and provide an overview of the Region's vision for coordinated and integrated transportation improvements.
The first of three Public Information Forums was held on March 19th at Brother Andre Catholic High School. A commitment was made by the Region to host similar meetings in the communities of Milliken, Thornhill and Unionville. The Milliken and Thornhill meetings will be scheduled and advertised shortly.
