Sludgewatch Admin:

I came across this quite by accident. But how does this happen? LA
District Attorney won a lawsuit against polluters and educates LA kids on
the danger of sludge...and then LA ships the Sludge Monster to poor little
Kern County?

"NIGHT OF THE LIVING SLUDGE"

This interactive game is a component of "Night of the Living Sludge," an
environmental awareness project consisting of a video, Teachers' Guide, game
board and this internet site. The whole project was funded by court
settlements won by the L.A. District Attorney's Office against major
polluters throughout the county.

The sludge monster is largely composed of unsorted, unrecycled garbage and
smelly deposits of motor oil, old tires, the acid and mercury from discarded
batteries, pesticides, and other hazardous household substances. No one is
sure why these substances have suddenly come together to form slimy monsters
which have squirted toxic goo on humans and in their homes, and have trashed
entire communities. Apparently, nothing can kill them (although certain
grease-cutting cleansers have been known to give them severe heartburn). We
only know one thing: They feed on trash and chemicals that have not been
disposed of correctly. If we cut off their food supply, we might have a
chance of survival.
