SOIL SAMPLES TEST ARE IN FOR PELHAM SLUDGE LANDFILL

Pelham, Ontario - August 29, 2006 -

A community group out of Pelham Ontario S.T.O.P ( Sludge Tacklers of Pelham) is involved in a battle to stop the dumping of paper sludge ( aka paper fiber biosolids waste) into a massive mountain of foul smelling contaminating sludge at 325 Church Street in Pelham.

MOE expert's reports indicate 96 feet of solid clay is below the berm, however the residents sent out soil samples from the property to a KO credited lab and results are in.

Indications from this test show the composition of the soil to be higher levels of sand and silt and only 9% clay. Photos taken show large layers of sand silt throughout the 400X400 foot test area contrary to the MOE expert hydro geological assessment of the property.

MOE tests previously show "run-off from the landfill has potential for adverse impacts", given the soil type that has shown up the migration through the soil will be uncontrolled and no assurances can be given to human health or the environment

The group is calling on the Minister to order a removal of the landfill product given the provincial wetlands and risk to contaminating the water source in the area.
