Industrial pollution

In the July 12 issue of the Daily Press the subject was what is causing
Virginia's waters to become polluted ("Pollution in Virginia: How clean is
the water?").

They say that there is fecal matter and bacteria in the water. Is it any
wonder? Just look at what Virginia is letting big companies do to our
wonderful state.

Behind my home there are more than 1,000 acres of human, animal and
industrial sludge/biosolids. This fecal matter, with all the bacteria, heavy
metals, chemicals, etc., runs right into a pond that joins the James River.
When we have heavy rains, as we have in the last few weeks, all this sludge
residue is washed right into ravines and then into the river. This stuff
that is sprayed in the trees and left is absolutely gross. There is no way
this can be good for our rivers or the people around it.

They need to stop the pollution and stop it now. For once the people need to
be heard and not the big companies. I urge readers to stand up and let your
leaders know that you will not stand for what is happening to your state and
the rivers and streams that run through it. Stand up, speak out and be
heard.
