EMS Announces Three-Year Biosolids Contract
BURLINGTON, ONTARIO
Environmental Management Solutions Inc. (EMS-TSX) today announced that its
wholly owned subsidiary GSI Environment Inc. has entered into a three-year
contract with the City of Toronto for the management of a portion of the
biosolid waste material generated by the City's wastewater treatment
operations. The term of the contract may be extended at the Company's option
for an additional two years if the Company meets certain conditions.
The biosolid contract is effective August 1, 2006 and is expected to add not
less than $13.5 million to the Com-pany's revenue over the next three years.
It builds on EMS' five-year biosolid waste management contract with the City
of Ottawa announced in July 2005.
The City of Toronto contract is in addition to the three-year contract to
manage the City's source separated organic waste that was announced in
September 2005. Source separated organic waste is residential organic waste
collected as part of the City's "Green Bin" program to reduce the amount of
waste sent to landfill through composting and beneficial reuse.
"This contract is the result of our concerted efforts to be a premier
service provider to the City of Toronto over the last year and we are
excited with this new opportunity to address a new, immediate waste
management need of the City," said Tony Busseri, President and Chief
Executive Officer of EMS. "We believe this contract provides good value to
the City and to EMS shareholders."
Mr. Busseri added: "The change in legislation in Michigan that created this
opportunity should be a strong warning signal to the Province of Ontario
that municipal generators need a framework in the province that will allow
them to address their waste management needs in an environmentally, socially
and economically acceptable way. By definition, sustainable development
needs permanent, Ontario-based solutions; composting and land application
are proven and effective, they should be embraced and supported by the
Ontario Ministry of the Environment as part of the solution to managing the
province's growing waste management demands."
