Below is information from Pelham resident Randy Desnoyers (905-892-4677)
about the latest Sound-Sorb (paper sludge) controversy. It is in the Niagara
community of Pelham, south-west of St. Catharines. Empire Agri-Service
(David & Lyle Brenzil of Canfield in Haldimand County) are in the process of
creating a massive Sound-Sorb berm at 325 Church Street in the hamlet of
Fenwick. This berm is being constructed of paper fibre biosolids (recycled
paper waste sludge from Abitibi-Consolidated in Thorold) and is located
between an old greenhouse operation and a rail line, across the road from a
residential area, and adjacent to a wetland reclamation project. The local
residents have been told that the berm is being installed to protect the
cucumbers in the greenhouse from train noise!!!

There was a picket line set up by the neighbours on Monday to slow the
sludge trucks, but it has since been removed under threat of legal action.
Pelham residents are planning a public meeting Wednesday June 21 in Fenwick,
and are asking that as many people as possible attend, especially those from
other communities in Ontario that have been affected by paper sludge
stockpiling and spreading operations. If enough people attend, maybe the
Ontario government will be embarrassed into acting on the recommendations of
their own expert panel, which have been ignored for going on two years now.

Heads up!!

Come one come all , it may not be in your back yard now but it soon will be,
Dunnville Ontario has at least 30 of these piles spread over the country
side. No one is safe from the paper sludge.

A public meeting to be held at the Fenwick Fire Hall, June 21, 2006 at 6pm
(Open Forum) all the players will be there including the media and we're
looking to have the largest single message sent, we won't stand for it!!

If we are going to change these sludge sites we must as one the largest
voice to be heard on that day, speak up or for ever hold your nose!!!
