Campbell County could receive its first application of biosolids as early as
next Friday.
The county received a notice from Nutri-Blend Inc., a biosolids applicator,
on April 28 stating that it plans to spread the treated sludge on land as
early as May 12.
The application may commence after this date due to weather conditions or
other factors, but the County will be notified if it has not begun within 5
days of this date, the notice stated.
According to the notice, the company anticipates the application will take
one to two weeks, depending on the weather and the availability of the
material.
Nutri-Blend received a permit through the Virginia Department of Health to
spread biosolids on about 130 acres off Hickory Creek Road near Brookneal.
The companys application request was met with opposition from citizens
opposed to the sludge spreading without stricter regulations from the state.
This is the first permit for Campbell County land. Permits already are
approved in Appomattox and Bedford counties for various application
companies.
