Sludgewatch Admin...
Yes..the Ontario Minister of the Environment asked best scientists and
physicians she could find to review the research on paper sludge...and they
told her it needs to be both composted and managed under a waste Certificate
of Approval (permit) if it is to be released into the environment.
Instead..the Minister is allowing it to be used for dairy bedding and soil
ammendment....
Since she isn't listening to the best minds in Province...just what voices
is she listening to?

Subject: Malahide Resolution May 18, 2006.
Malahide Township Council met May 18, 2006, and passed the following
Resolution:
WHEREAS the Experts Panel on Paper Fibre Bio-Solids (Sound Sorb) recommended
a number of initiatives to the Minister Of Environment in February 2005 and
action on these recommendations have yet to be taken, and
WHEREAS the Township of Malahide supported the recommendations of the
Experts Panel, and
WHEREAS municipalities and environmental groups have been pressing the MOE
to keep waste destined for further processing or blending into products such
as Sound-Sorb and Nitro-Sorb under the regulator umbrella of the MOE
throughout the transportation, processing, storage/stock piling and final
resting site under a Certificate of Approval and under the provisions of the
Nutrient Management Act.
THEREFORE be it resolved that the Township of Malahide calls on the MOE to
implement the recommendations of the Experts Panel that these products be
controlled by Ministry Certificates of Approval or other legal instruments
to ensure protection of human health and the environment
