Study Drugs in the Water? That is looking at the most diluted end of the
problem! We need to see studies of drugs into the sewer and drugs in the
sludge and effluent and combined sewer overflows!
We human beings are not exactly the 'canary in the coal mine' of sensitve
species. We need to look what quality water we are making other species
live in and drink.

PA to Study Drugs in Water
>From Water Tech Online, 5-18-06. PA Will Study Drugs in Water. Gov. Edward
G. Rendell has announced a partnership with the federal government to study
the amount of prescription and non-prescription chemicals in the drinking
water sources of central Pennsylvania, according to a May 18 press release.
The state's Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) began the study
with the Pennsylvania Water Science Center at the U.S. Geologic Survey in
February, and sampling will be performed on a quarterly basis, leading to a
final report in 2007, the release said.
The goal of the study is to screen for pharmaceutical and antibiotic
compounds present in streams and groundwater sources of drinking water in
south-central Pennsylvania, and then to determine their concentrations, the
release said. According to the announcement, the study also will suggest the
sources of the compounds and determine seasonal variations in their
concentrations.
