Nursery Products LLC - a company that was court ordered to stop taking
sludge due to the ghastly impacts on the neighbors in Adelanto Calif -
is making a concerted bid to start a huge open air static pile sludge site
in the California desert near thebenighted town of Hinkley. Hinkley
residents
were made famous (infamous) in the film Erin Brokovich. The groundwater was
polluted with Chromium 6,
Now this waste company wants to try to site a sewage sludge facility
there...and haul sludge and greenwaste into static piles in the desert.
The property has no water, no electricity, no plans to clean off the sludge
trucks, no plans to turn the windrows the required 5 times, and seems
determined to continue the same practices that caused flies, odor, and trash
problems in their Adelanto site. The City of Adelanto sued Nursery Products.
So did their Adelanto neighbor - Los Angeles Dept of Water and Power.
Here is the 'completed' Environmental Impact Report that is being rushed to
completion. Read it over and see if it makes any sense to you. SEND IN

The residents of Hinkley are raising funds selling t shirts..and asking for
contributions toward legal fees to fight the sludge. The County is making
them pay $1850 just to file an appeal if the EIR is approved by the Planning
Commission. There is still time to send in your comments to Carrie Hyke at
San Bernardino County planning
on this awful sludge proposal. And now is the time to help the cause by
buying a Help Hinkley t-shirt...with the bold 'no flies on Hinkley'
logo....see attached photo.
The t shirts cost $25. All contributions to the Hinkley cause will be
appreciated.

Letter to the Editor
Community coming together to fight sludge
First I want to thank all of the people who have been working so hard to
shed light on the proposed sludge dump in Hinkley. The City Council finally
showed some leadership by passing a resolution against the facility. Our
only local newspaper has been covering the issue. Our state representatives
have become involved. The Barstow School Board has shown strong leadership
against the proposal. The surrounding communities of Newberry, Yermo, and
Barstow Heights have all passed resolutions against the facility. The
Chamber of Commerce and new City Council member Mr. Silva has stood up in
opposition. The people of these communities as well as the people of Barstow
have stood up in opposition to this intrusion on our air quality, clean
water and clean desert. The deadline for our comments is today Monday the
13th to the County Land Use Services Dept. in San Bernardino.
It seems the only ones we have not convinced is the County Board of
Supervisors and Bill Postmus. They are the ones who have blessed this
project. They supported it in Adelanto, Newberry and now in Hinkley. They
hold the final vote. It is now up to them to decide to force this waste on
us over our overwhelming objections. The Planning Commission meeting on Nov.
30th will be the next step. We as a community will have to be there to show
them our feelings. We are organizing buses to travel to this meeting. If you
cannot attend, please support the effort by donating some funds to help pay
for these buses. I will be pulling my children out of school for this
because I feel it is an important lesson to teach them about civic
responsibility and how to stand up for our future.
You can still fax or e-mail comments today Nov. 13th by 5 p.m. to Carrie
Hyke and Bill Postmus at: chyke at lusd.sbcounty.gov or fax (909) 387-3223
Thank you for all the support. We can and will stop this intrusion on our
future and the future of our kids and grandkids.
