As you may have heard, on July 21st there was a major development in the
Canada Sierra Legal fight to attain sewage treatment for Victoria when
BC's Environment Minister announced
that the city would need to submit a plan for sewage treatment to the
Province by June of 2007.

Now Sierra Legal is following through on this momentum by launching a
private
prosecution against the Greater Vancouver Regional District and the Province
of BC, and demanding that West Vancouver's Lions Gate sewage plant and
Richmond's
Iona plant be upgraded to secondary treatment levels. In 1995 we launched a
similar lawsuit against the GVRD over concerns with its Annacis Island
treatment
plant. Within weeks of that move, all three levels of government committed
to
secondary sewage treatment. We are now working for the same outcome for the
GVRD's two remaining primary treatment plants. Here is links to our press
release
and an article from today's Globe and Mail.
