The National Academies Christine Mirzayan Science and Technology Policy
Graduate Fellowship Program Presents:

Household Antimicrobial Products:
Good Clean Living or Emerging Contaminant?

Consumer antimicrobial products have become a part of our daily lives.
Common ingredients in these products, such as triclocarban (TCC) and
triclosan (TCS), have been detected in wastewater, biosolids, humans and
the environment.

Rolf Halden, professor at Johns Hopkins University, Bloomberg School of
Public Health, and Brian Sansoni, representative from the Soap and
Detergent Association, will discuss the state of the science on
potential risks and benefits of widespread use of antimicrobials in
household products (soaps, etc.) and their consequential presence in the
environment. The seminar will provide speakers with 20 minutes to
present their opinions followed by a moderated question and answer
session.

Wednesday, October 25, 2006 at 12:30 PM to 2:00 PM
National Academies' Keck Center 500 Fifth St. N.W. Room 100
