LA tries to suspend Kern's anti-sludge ban, Kern responds

BAKERSFIELD - Kern County Attorneys filed a response to the lawsuit filed in 
August by Los Angeles to get Kern's sludge ban initiative overturned.
Kern petitioned today to the Central District Federal Court in Los Angeles 
to throw out the southland's suit.
Sanitation districts in the southland truck 99 percent of their treated 
sewage to Kern, and claim these practices are safe.
Local opponents said the current science on sludge is murky at best, and 
fear it could one day harm local groundwater.
A hearing on the suspension of Kern's anti-sludge law is set for October 16 
in Los Angeles.
