The Junta de Andalucía has started fining proceedings against a Murcia
company which has dumped contaminated sludge on private land in neighbouring
Granada province.
The sludge is a by-product produced during the sewage treatment and contains
highly pollutant materials.
The company in question is reported to be Cespa, which manages the Cañada
Hermosa sewage treatment plant in Murcia.
Gerardo Sánchez, the Juntas environmental chief for Granada province, told
EFE news agency on Tuesday that the original report came from the
environmental organisation, Ecologistas en Acción. They say that as much as
250 tons of sludge has been dumped on the land in La Puebla de Don Fadrique,
which borders with Murcia.
Environment department inspectors found 14 tons at the site during an
inspection on Tuesday
