Greenpeace is asking the Canadian Province of Quebec to hold to its promise
of labelling all genetically modified food at point of sale.
We need laws that will require labelling of food grown on sludge.

Greenpeace hopes to play a part in Quebec's next provincial election

Greenpeace is, according to this story, reigniting the debate in Quebec over
whether to label genetically modified food, and it's using the coming
provincial election to kick-start the discussion. The environmental lobby
group is running ads in local newspapers reminding all elected officials of
a promise made the last time people in Quebec went to the polls for a
provincial election.
Premier Jean Charest made a promise the last time he was on the campaign
trail that once elected, he would make the labelling of genetically modified
food mandatory. That was four years ago, and still not one label has
appeared on grocery-store shelves. That's sparked a Greenpeace advertising
campaign, one that looks ahead to the next provincial election.
Éric Darier of Greenpeace was quoted as saying, "They didn't keep up their
promise, so the ad this morning was to remind Mr. Charest and the government
that they promised mandatory labelling."
The names of all the Quebec MNAs are listed on the half-page ad, and three
quarters of those from all parties are printed in red. Greenpeace says
they're the ones who've refused to take a stand on the labelling issue.
Darier hopes Quebecers will help them make up their minds by reminding the
MNAs the issue is important, stating, We have, you know, a basic right to
know what we eat, and a basic right to not eat genetically modified food if
we don't want to.
