Here is a letter we received from an Adelanto resident who recently learned
about our situation with the sludge.

I am a resident of Adelanto, Ca. Before Nursery Products moved in it was
pretty good. After they moved in and built their plant it was horrible.

We couldn't let the children at neighboring schools go to recess. The smell
sent teachers and children home with breathing problems. I lived approx 4
miles away and it smelled like we were living with an open sewage pit. I
can't stress enough how bad this odor was. Prior to their arrival we didn't
have any fly problems. After they moved in so did the flys.

They've been gone awhile but the flys are still here. It seems the same
people and lies about odor are being told again to you folks in Hinkley.
DON’T BELIEVE THEM! Talk to people that lived here and the problems this
town had to get rid of them once they got here. I myself believe the city
here had to pay them off to move out.

What they do is receive the sludge from water treatment plants (human
waste), and take it to a dry lake bed or flat scrapped land and empty the
waste on top of the ground, let it cure and dry some, then gather it up. You
can't tell me that human waste (fecies) spread on top of the ground isn't
going to stink bad. The smell will 1000 times fold if it comes from 100
houses. If people want to know how bad it smells. have them open the tops of
their septic tanks and leave it off for a couple of weeks. We were always
proud of the fact we don’t have a fly problem like places down the hill, we
can't say that now.

I want to leave this advice. Contact the city or cities (even nearby cities)
this company has had a business with in the past. If it wasn't so bad why
have they been closed up everywhere. They didn't live up to the odor
agreements. I use along with 3/4ths of the city a swamp (evaporative)
cooler. You can't use it with this company anywhere near you. The cooler
will sweep the smell throughout your house.

GOOD LUCK please I was an advocate for them to open here.
Now, Not a chance.

I wish I could warn every city these companies plan to move to. Call some
teachers, Ordinary city workers, on this matter. If you hear anything
contrary about this company from this city, ask them why they worked so hard
getting them removed. between the lawyers and courts were involved.
