>From this lighthearted (I HOPE its a joke) commentary, several sludge whiz
guys are putting their heads together to bring American hegemony to the
Middle-East by bombing them with the world's payload of Class B sewage
sludge.

Somehow the author seemz to forget that it was the lack of water that
creates a desert, not a lack of sewer wastes. But those wastewater guys can
forget alot of things.

Sludgedump the Middle-East
Refirtilize the land with sewage sludge bombs.

This would be a stinky, albeit a nonlethal operation in order to make it
rain sewer sludge on every square inch of the middle east. This operation
could take an entire fleet of C-17 Globemaster III's a few weeks to a few
months of dropping 77,000 kg loads of the stuff (25% solids by volume is
about the consistancey of cake batter) at a few times daily, depending on
the optimal dumping altitude. After the entire middle east is covered in
sludge, though, then we can start changing the deserts into firtile
grasslands and thus reversing the effects of global warming for good.

Sp.: fertile; fertilize. "Firtile" would be a shingle.

Just how much sludge do you need for this? Suppose you aim for a
modest 1inch depth, or 2.5cm. The land area of the middle east is, what 4
million square kilometres? If so, you will need (in total) 10^17 cubic
centimetres of sludge, at a stated solids content of 25%.

I don't know what the solids content of human faeces are, but I'm
guessing they something like 25%, give or take a factor of two. So, you need
10^17 cubic centimetres of human poo.

I would guess that the average human produces, maybe, 200 cubic
centimetres of poo per day. Hence, you are going to need 5 x 10^14 man-days
of poo to accomplish this mission.

Given that there are, what, 6 billion people on the planet, it will
take you 83,000 days to collect this much. In other words, you will have to
accumulate the total poo output of all humanity over a period of 228 years
before you can start this.

A little basic calculation at the outset could have avoided this
embarrassing error.

I worry the sludge will dry up. Then it will blow around. That would
not be good.

And then there's the number of trips. Assuming that the sludge has a
density of about 1g/cm^3, you will be able to carry 77 x 10^6 cm^3 per
flight. Hence, you will need to make a total of 1.3 billion flights.

I don't know how many C-17s there are, but let's guess 1000. And
suppose they are really efficient and make 10 flights each per day. On this
basis, it will take 130,000 days, or 356 years, to deliver the total
payload.
