NUBSORG INC.(no unsafe biosolid storage on rural ground) was formed to help
communicate to the public the concerns many citizens have surrounding the
proposal to establish a Biosolids storage facility at 10098 Greystead Drive
(approx 1/2 hour north west of London, Ontario) in Middlesex Centre.
We are group of concerned citizens who heard about the application for a
bylaw amendment to allow the use of a burned hog operation barn for the
storage of 1 million gallons of municipal sludge or biosolids. In speaking
to many community members either personally or at the public information
meetings which we held, we find that there are many people in our community
who agree with us that the storage of municipal sludge is not an
agriculturally related activity that is support by our County Strategic Plan
and that the hauling and storage of these materials pose a risk to our well
based drinking water system if there is a breach of the facility or a spill
by the trucks.
We made our concerns known to the Council and feel that some of our efforts
assisted them in not voting in favour of the bylaw amendment. Now the
company ( Bartels Enviornmental Services) and the local proponent have taken
this refusal to the Ontario Municipal Review Board.
We have incorporated ourselves into a non profit organization and our
mandate is to oppose the STORAGE of Bio sludge in our community. We also
feel that if this proposal is passed it will set a precedent and the effects
will be far reaching.
We have hired lawyer Alan Patton to represent our interests before the OMB.
This is costly. That is why we are asking the public for support, both on
the issue of biosolids and financial.
