~ call to artists ~ BREATHWORK ~ call to artists ~

Organized by the Waterfront Trail Artists in Etobicoke,
Breathwork will be a group exhibition, curated by Rochelle Holt, that
will examine issues around the environment regarding the
effect/realities of Toronto's urban climate on our ability to live and
breathe. In other words how are we as a metropolitan community
negotiating our natural state with the stresses, restrictions, dangers
of living in a highly polluted environment. Artists are also encouraged to
think
about their own issues around the environment, breathing, what it means to
live in a city built around a lake that is no longer drinkable, or the
experience of the public presence of art in this geographical context.

Selected artwork, including performance, will be installed out doors
at selected sites as well as indoors at TBA locations. This
interventionist aspect of the project is a continuation from previous years
when the
WTA displayed artists' works in the community as a way to raise awareness
of artistic creation and concerns within the Lakeshore community of
Etobicoke. The worksite area is bounded by the Queensway to the north,
Humber River to the east, Lake Ontario to the south, and Etobicoke
Creek to the west. The Long Branch 501 streetcar runs the length of Lake
Shore Blvd. (the area's "main street"). There are 8 waterfront parks, and a
large "brownfield area" behind the artists' co-op on Birmingham St.

This call for submissions is open to artists from diverse disciplines
and backgrounds, currently based in Metro Toronto and environs.
