Leslie D. Bland, Artistic Director of Victoria's Kaleidoscope Theatre
will be holding readings for Kaleidoscope's production of Simon
Johnston's Gold Mountain Guest on Tuesday August 27 in Vancouver at
Carousel Theatre 1411 Cartwright Street.  The production begins
rehearsals April 28, 2003 and performs May 22 - 31 at Victoria's Belfry
Theatre Mainstage.  


Vancouver 1903.  A brutal murder.  There are three Chinese suspects -- a
man, his wife and their daughter.  The body of the play is the testimony
of these suspects.   Each one has a different and contradictory reason
for the slaughter.  In witnessing their stories, the effects of the
building of the railway on Chinese workers and their families are
revealed.  The National Dream was their nightmare.

1)  Innocence:  A Chinese labourer 

2)  Jade:  His wife

3)  Treasure:  Jade's Daughter

4)  Wong:  a Chinese book man, labour agent, businessman/ Low-see:  A
Young Chinese man

 
Actors from ethnically diverse backgrounds are encouraged to audition.
