The CAEA directors and choreographers committee is pleased to present an extraordinary opportunity for professional development. Fees

Fees for participation, travel and accommodation will be subsidized.
Estimated value: $2800
Cost to Equity members: $350 (including guaranteed tickets to 4 shows)

Selection Process

A five person selection committee will be chosen from past participants, World Stage Festival organizers and an independent representative. There will be 16 to 18 participants. Non-Equity directors may apply. However, at least three-quarters of the directors must be Equity and at least half of those must come from outside Toronto. Travel and accommodation subsidy is available to Equity members only. Strong preference will be given to applicants who have directed professionally at least four times in the past three years, however, consideration will be given to directors with substantial credits but who have taken a recent sabbatical or change of direction which may have limited their directing work in the past three years. The chosen participants will reflect a diversity of regional representation and levels of experience. Please note that, while past participants may apply, strong preference will be given to first-time applicants.

Programme

Directors will be chosen from among those presenting shows at the World Stage Festival and others with an international reputation. While the Master Directors cannot be confirmed at this time, rest assured the quality will be of the same exceptional level as in previous years. In 1998 our Master Directors included: Joseph Chaikin (Open Theatres, USA), Max Stafford Clark (Out of Joint/Royal Court, UK), Bia Lessa (Brazil), Katie Mitchell (RSC National, UK), and Deborah Warner (RSC National, UK). In 2000: Polly Teale, (UK), Tadeusz Bradecki (Poland), Flora Lauten (CUBA), Cameron Porteous (Canada), Yoshi Oida (Japan & UK) and Peter Brook (UK).
