Searching for Hana: Exploration for the Vocally Inquisitive With Kate
Hennig


This is a series of ten classes that focuses on training our intuitive
connection with voice for the theatre. It is a physically based approach
that analyses and synthesises the work of the mind, body, and voice in
expression and communication.

This work is aimed at professional actors who have solid voice skills,
and are looking for input, inspiration, and exploration of the voice's
limitless potential. It's fun, hard, and stimulating! What more could
you ask?

The upcoming session of classes takes place at Equity Showcase in the
Guild Room from 1:30 - 4:00 pm. The following classes are available:

July 13 -    Hana 1: Energy (with Introductory Session)*
Exploring vocal energy as it relates to involvement and limitations of
the body and the mind.

July 14 -     Hana 4: Rhythm
Exploring aspects of rhythm and song in vocal expression.

July 20 -     Hana 2: Element (with Introductory Session)
Exploring the interrelationship of vocal expression with the four
elements in terms of physical and mental energy.

July 21 -     Hana 5: Awareness
Exploring a detailed awareness of the interrelatedness of movement and
sound through individual and group dynamics.

July 27 -     Hana 3: Structure (with Introductory Session)
Exploring the ways in which physical and theatrical structure gives us
support and clarification for expression and communication.

July 28 -     Hana 6: Form*
Exploring the impact of specific physical and literary form on vocal
expression and communication. Sources: Paula Thompson (Chi Gung), David

* All classes require a short piece of classical text to work with. For
Hana
6: Form please have a Shakepearean sonnet prepared.


The fee schedule is as follows:

Equity Rates
For those who make under $25,000.00 a year - $20.00 + GST
For those who make over  $25,000.00 a year - $30.00 + GST

Non-Equity Rate
$25.00 + GST

Every fourth class that you take is $10.00 + GST.

Hana is a term from the Noh theatre. Literally it means "Flower".
Metaphorically it represents the inimitable essence of the actor and his
craft.

Kate Hennig has an MA (Distinction) in Voice Studies from the Central
School of Speech and Drama in London, England. She is an award winning
professional actor with twenty-two years of experience on stage and in
film. She has trained extensively in voice, movement and acting with
such teachers as Patsy Rodenburg, Andrew Wade, Kevin Crawford, Janine
Pearson, Kelly McKevenue, Paula Thompson,  and Mark Christmann.
