AUDITIONS
for a September 2002 production of

R. Murray Schafer's
THE ENCHANTED FOREST

SINGING ROLES:

ARIANE - lyric soprano. Should be 25 - 30 years of age, youthful and slender
in appearance.

WHITE STAG - heldentenor. Singing role only. Does not appear to audience.
MIMIR - bass. Powerful voice of Murdeth's all-seeing eye. May involve some
puppeteering.

SLEEPERS - 3 baritone singers. Some acting ability also required.

ACTOR/SINGERS

EMOR and ANVIR - 2 actresses. Part henchwomen of Murdeth, part guard-birds,
these creatures know the past and can predict the future. Good movers with
powerful voices. 20+ years of age.

HATEMPKA - actress with good alto singing voice. Hatempka is earthy and
wise, knows everything that happens in the forest, perhaps a witch but does
not abuse power, ancient. 45+ years of age. Good mover/powerful voice.

FENRIS - actor/singer - baritone. Fenris is a wolf who strives to protect
the forest and is angry about its destruction. Wants to reclaim the wild and
also represents the wild. Powerful voice, strong presence. Age 30+.

WHITE STAG - actor who moves well. Graceful but powerful. Some dance
training and experience an asset.

MARSH HAWK - actor/actress. Very downtown, urban, streetwise, with
attitude. Not evil, but willing to compromise his integrity for personal
gain. 25 - 35 years of age.

STUMP - actor. Embodies the spirit of a felled tree. Exists in a kind of
purgatory where he sees much but is able to do little. 30 + years of age but
with an ability to play older.

MURDETH - actor. Both corporate executive and powerful wizard. Believes
progress for humanity means unfettered development. Greedy, intimidating
both in his presence and his size. 40+ years of age.

FLOWER SPIRITS, FIREFLIES, TREE SCREAMERS - 12 boys and girls, age 8 to 14.
Need to be able to move well. Some dance training or ability an asset by not
a requirement.
