The Gateway Theatre is holding auditions immediately for:
THE FUNNY FACED OGRE,
by Asaya Fujita translated by Yoshi Yoshihara & James Roy

What's a funny-faced ogre to do when no one is afraid of his looks? This
stunning work combines elements of traditional Noh and Kyogen theatre to
tell the Japanese version of Beauty and The Beast. The result is a
magical fairy tale in which the funny-faced ogre falls in love with a
blind girl and must battle fear and prejudice to win her love.

Auditions are Monday, November 18th, 2002 from 10am until 3pm. We are
hoping to have the production entirely cast before the end of November.

ROLES:
THE FUNNY FACED OGRE: Masked character.
YUKI: A sixteen year old blind girl.
THE MOUNTAIN GODDESS: Also doubles as chorus.
THE FATHER: Also doubles as chorus.
CHORUS: x 2

Seeking performers who are strong in mask, movement, singing and music.
Training or interest in Japanese traditional theatre, dance or music an

The production will be directed by Heidi Specht. Rehearsals will begin
on April 14, 2003. The show will run in the studio space at the Gateway
