NOTE: This musical is set in Baltimore, MD in 1962.

SEEKING:

TRACY TURNBLAD: Female, Caucasian, 5'3" or shorter, to play high school
age. Must be heavyset. Fun, good-hearted, outgoing with a vibrant,
lovable personality. Becomes a teen hero. Strong pop singer and mover. 

EDNA TURNBLAD: Male to play female, 40's-50's. Caucasian. Tracy's
mother. A working class devoted housewife. Sincere, not campy. Needs a
funny, grand character actor with singing ability who can convincingly
play a woman. Large physique. 

WILBUR TURNBLAD: Male, Caucasian, 40's-60's. Tracy's father. A working
class inventor. Sweet personality. Needs a funny character actor. Good
character singer. 

MOTORMOUTH MAYBELLE: Female, African-Canadian, 40's-50's. Seaweed and
Little Inez's mother. Queen of Baltimore Soul who sings on the local TV
dance show. Powerful and inspiring, with an infectious personality.
Large physique. Strong, soulful, gospel/pop singer. 

VELMA VON TUSSLE: Female, Caucasian, 40's-50's. A former beauty queen,
Amber's mother, and producer of the local TV dance show. Upscale,
attractive snob who always wants her daughter in the spotlight. Funny,
biting, manipulative. Good character singer. 

CORNY COLLINS: Male, Caucasian, 30's. Host of the local TV dance show.
Handsome, charming, engaging Dick Clark type. Strong pop singer. 

LINK LARKIN: Male, Caucasian, to play high school age. Cute, sexy,
good-hearted, down-to-earth. The heartthrob of the local TV dance show.
Strong pop singer. 

SEAWEED J. STUBBS: Male, African-Canadian, to play high school age.
Cool, sexy, good-hearted. Son of Motormouth Maybelle who becomes Penny's
boyfriend. Strong, soulful pop singer. 

AMBER VON TUSSLE: Female, Caucasian, to play high school age. A blonde
ice princess. Attractive snob. Funny. Strong pop singer. 

PENNY PINGLETON: Female, Caucasian, to play high school age. Nerdy,
neurotic, shy best friend of Tracy. Starts to come out of her shell when
she meets Seaweed. Strong pop singer. 

LITTLE INEZ: Female, African-Canadian, 11-14. Tough, streetwise,
outgoing, older than her years. Seaweed's lovable little sister. Strong
Broadway/pop singer. 

MALE AUTHORITY FIGURE: Male, Caucasian, 40's-50's. To play various roles
including Harriman F. Spritzer, Principal, Mr. Pinky and Guard and also
to understudy Edna Turnblad and/or Wilbur Turnblad. Must be a sharp,
funny, inventive character actor with strong singing voice. Think,
"SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE." 

FEMALE AUTHORITY FIGURE: Female, Caucasian, 40's-50's. To play various
roles including Prudy Pingleton, Gym Teacher and Matron and also
understudy Velma Von Tussle. Must be a sharp, funny, inventive character
actress with strong singing voice. Think, "SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE." 

ENSEMBLE DANCERS WHO SING WELL: Submit male and female dancers with
strong pop singing voices, ages 18-30. Can be any ethnicity and any
type. To play various roles in the ensemble and possibly cover principal
roles.

members cast in this production will be engaged under an Equity form of
