THEATRE CALGARY
PETRO-CANADA PLAY ADVANCEMENT SERIES SUBMISSION
------------------------------------------------------------------------
------

About the Series

Theatre Calgary's Petro-Canada Play Advancement Series is a new play
initiative providing an opportunity for Western Canadian theatre
companies to workshop a new Canadian play for production in their
subsequent season. We encourage submissions from culturally diverse
voices and artists who are committed to the exploration of new theatre
practices. Submissions will be selected by a jury lead by Series
Director and Dramaturg Eric Rose. Each theatre company selected will
receive a one-week workshop at Theatre Calgary in June 2004. The Series
will be open to non-traditional casting and workshop methods. Local
professional actors will be provided to explore the play with the
director and playwright/creator of the companies selected. The week of
work will culminate in a public presentation of the plays. The form of
the presentations will be decided by where the play and company are in
their development process.

The Artistic Mission of the Play Advancement Series is

- To advance new Canadian plays towards full production through a
flexible and adaptive development process
- To encourage and welcome culturally diverse voices
