On-Camera Acting Workshop in Calgary
David Rotenberg will be in Calgary offering an Acting for the Camera
Workshop for professionals March 11 - 13, 2003.

As well, the evening of Monday, March 3rd, he will be presenting an open
lecture on The Art of Modern Acting, followed by discussion and a
reception. Admission is free. Location TBA. Please call 220-6027 for
further details.

Familiar to the acting communities of many major centres across Canada,
including Vancouver, Montreal, Ottawa and Toronto, this will be Mr.
Rotenberg's first class offering in Calgary. An accomplished director
for the theatre, David is widely recognized as one of Canada's most
highly sought-after and successful teachers of acting, as cited by
Maclean's magazine in April 2002. He has developed a unique approach to
the teaching of acting, providing the actor with practical tools equally
applicable to the preparation of audition materials and shooting on set.
For the past thirteen years David's on-camera classes at Toronto's
Equity Showcase studio have been jam-packed , and his roster of private
students, many of whom now live and work across the continent, is
constantly growing. Amongst those with whom he has worked extensively
are Nola Augustson (Tom Stone), Demore Barnes (The Associates), Shawn
Doyle (11th Hour, Frequency), Krista Bridges (Narc), Matt Gordon (11th
Hour), David Hirsch (Leap Years), Joris Jarsky (Foolproof), Ron Lea
(Street Legal), Jeremy Ratchford (Blue Murder), Michael Riley (2 Geminis
for best actor), Polly Shannon (Margaret in CBC's Trudeau), and Scott
Speedman (Felicity).

On faculty at the Graduate Program of Acting at York University, Mr.
Rotenberg also teaches at the National Theatre School, the WPA in
Vancouver and the Actor's Training Group in Halifax. He has set up
theatre programs in New Orleans, Vancouver and Cape Town, South Africa,
and has directed on Broadway and for television. His two novels, The
Shanghai Murders and The Lake Ching Murders , are in the bookstores,
and he has been contracted to write a third in the Chinese series. He
has also been contracted to write the screenplay for The Shanghai
Murders. Recently he has adapted and directed Per Lagerkvist's The
Dwarf, Wedekind's Lulu and Raymond Chandler's Lady in the Lake. He
trained at the Yale School of Drama under Robert Brustein, completing an
MFA in directing.

Class size will be small, to allow for personalized work with each
participant. Sessions will run 12:30 to 4:30, Tuesday March 11th through
Thursday March 13th in the Theatre Calgary rehearsal hall. Cost is $200.

To apply for the On-Camera class, please submit by February 7 a photo
and resume, along with a non-refundable deposit of $50 (cheque made out
to David Rotenberg). Mr. Rotenberg will review materials and selected
applicants will be notified by February 16. The cheques of those not
selected will be returned. Late applications will be considered as space
permits.
