 EQUIFLASH: AUSTRALIAN PERFORMERS STRIKE
-----------------------------------------------

Australian performers will strike after months of being stonewalled by
producers in negotiations over the agreements that cover their wages and
conditions. Performers will strike for 24 hours on Thursday 17 July
2003. This will be followed by a ban of all weekend work commencing 19
July 2003.

Equity members have endorsed industrial action on film and television
productions with a national 24-hour strike next week and a ban on
weekend work. Key outstanding issues include - real residuals for film
production; improved residuals and repeat fees for television
productions; better treatment for guest cast members on TV productions
and, more certainty for the performer when a producer seeks an option
contract.

Due to this industrial action, Canadian Actors' Equity Association
requests that its members not accept film and TV work in Australia
without first consulting with Australian Equity (MEAA).
