SBB Musical Productions is planning to workshop the musical DREGS,
August 18-24 of 2003, culminating with a performance reading on the 24th
at the Arts Club Revue on Granville Island. DREGS is a look at life on
the streets and all of its temptations. Who were these people? How did
they get to this point in their lives? Is there any hope of escaping?
There  will be 8 roles available to equity actors. While all other roles
will be filled with non-equity members. If interested, please forward

The characters are as follows;


EQUITY

Tony Hunter: 30-40 male, any ethnic origin, (must have ability to play
guitar and African drum for show, NOT necessary for workshop though)
.......Tenor with Rock & Roll Style of voice.

Matilda: 40+, any ethnic origin, a fragile, but pleasant woman who has
spent most of her adult life on the streets.......Mezzo 

Benny: 50+ Vietnam Vet, Caucasian or afro-American. A very bitter, angry
individual, who can be manipulative and self-serving....Baritone

Jake: 60+, any ethnic origin, street preacher who has taken to spreading
the Lord's words upon the streets. His own guilt over his dying son,
lead him to the streets in search of salvation.........Bass

Angel: 28-32 street wise prostitute of any ethnic background, who has
been working the streets for almost 15 year. Snappy and funny, she
exudes a certain confidence, although lacking what it takes to get off
the streets...........Alto/Belter

Lui: 50, a short, stout Italian immigrant. He runs a shop in the tough
part of town, with his wife Margarita. A very friendly, understanding
man, still trying to come to terms with the loss of his own daughter to
the streets, where she died of a drug overdose.......Bari-Bass

Tyler: 18-25, clean cut, handsome young man. He is street tough, but
puts on the charm when approaching his prey (young girls). He works as a
recruiter for a local pimp, charming the girls with gifts of clothing
and food. He offers them relief in the form of minor drugs, soon
building them up to more expensive drugs until hooked and having to sell
themselves to pay off their debts.........Tenor

Crystal & Margarita: (Dual role) Crystal: 60+, elderly and frail. A
former ward of the state, hospital closures put her back on the streets.
She is the prototypical bag lady, gathering items others throw away,
talking to no one in particular, eating from
dumpsters.............Alto...... Margarita: 50. Lui's wife. She has
seemed to come to terms with their only child's death (if this is
possible), but still tries to support Lui in his quest for peace of
mind..........Alto

Equity members will be seen first at all open audition calls. 
Equity members cast in this production will be engaged under an Equity
form of contract. CAEA members: please bring your membership card to the
audition.
