The Obsidian Theatre Company Internship Program
------------------------------------------------

Obsidian Theatre Company is a Canadian company of seasoned theatre
professionals who come from the many cultures of the African Diaspora
and who are passionately committed to the exploration, development, and
production of the Black voice on the world stage.

One of the greatest challenges facing culturally diverse arts
organizations is the dearth of experienced, committed Arts
Administrators. To meet this challenge Obsidian has created a 17-week
Administrative Producing Intern position. The program runs from November
10, 2003 to March 6, 2004. With Obsidian's Administrative Producer
(Philip Akin) as the primary Mentor, the successful applicant will
receive basic training in the following areas:

* General Administration (Payroll, Reports to board etc.)
*         Producing (Contracting, Budgeting etc.)
* Marketing, Publicity and Outreach (Media Relations, Audience
Development etc.)
* Fundraising (Grant writing, Special Events etc)

Intern will receive $400 weekly for the duration of the training period.

Requirements

* You are a Canadian Citizen or Landed Immigrant
* You are a committed individual who is actively pursuing a
professional career in Arts Administration.
* You have some degree of experience at the community level, in
an educational institution or in a professional organization.
* You have some degree of computer literacy.

NB - This program is funded through the Department of Canadian Heritage
and as a criteria of funding preference will be given to applicants who
are, or self-identify, as coming from a culturally diverse background.

Applicants must submit a bio/resume and a letter of intent indicating
career goals and how this internship would help in achieving those
goals. Interviews will be conducted during the second week of October
2003.
