Winner of the Stage West Emerging Equity Artist Award Announced

Canadian Actors' Equity Association (CAEA) will honour Tibor
Feheregyhazi, Jacqueline Schumiatcher , Jane Heyman, and Lucia Frangione
at an awards presentation and luncheon, Sunday, September 28th, 4:30 pm
in Toronto.

Each year Equity presents an Honorary Membership, Life Membership, and
the Larry McCance Award to celebrate those individuals who have made
outstanding contributions to the performing arts, to our members and to
our association. In addition, we will be recognizing an emerging artist
who has shown exceptional promise in their craft with the Stage West
Emerging Equity Artist Award. It is with pride and appreciation that we
announce this year's recipients."
-- Victor A. Young, president, Canadian Actors' Equity Association

Equity president Victor A. Young will present Tibor Feheregyhazi with a
Life Membership in recognition of his distinguished career in the
performing arts. Tibor built a career in Canadian theatre that has
spanned more than 40 years. Since 1982 he has shown a passionate
commitment to Saskatchewan and the development of professional theatre.
Tibor continues to share his love of theatre with his passion, talent
and skill as artistic director of Saskatoon's Persephone Theatre.

Equity Councillor Marianne Woods will present Jacqueline Schumiatcher of
Regina, Saskatchewan with an Honorary Membership in recognition of her
significant contributions to the performing arts in Canada. Jacqueline
has been a supporter of the arts in the province of Saskatchewan for
over 50 years as a patron and benefactor.

Jane Heyman will be awarded the Larry McCance Award in recognition of
her service to the members of Canadian Actors' Equity Association. As
an elected representative, Jane has been a tireless advocate for CAEA
and its members for more than 20 years. Currently she is using that
energy working with Performing Arts Lodges Vancouver as well as planning
the formation of a National Association of Theatre Educators and
Training Institutions.

The Larry McCance Award will also be awarded posthumously to Gary
Goddard who passed away in December of last year. Gary was Equity's
"roving" business representative before opening his own talent agency.
Gary later served as the President of the Actors' Fund of Canada and
became an important fixture in the Toronto theatre community. Kenneth
Wickes, a past winner of this award will be making the presentation to
Judy Richardson, a dear friend of Gary's.

The winner of the Stage West Emerging Equity Artist Award for 2003 is
Lucia Frangione of Vancouver. Lucia will be presented with a cash prize
of $2,000 by Laurie Wallace-Lynch, Director of Marketing/Public
Relations for Stage West Theatres. This award, generously initiated by
Stage West in celebration of Equity's silver anniversary in 2001,
recognizes an Equity member who has belonged to the association for
three years or less yet has already made a significant contribution and
impression as an artist.

"This award recognizes the valuable asset this country has in young
talent. We feel, as one of Canada's largest employers of performers and
backstage crew, Stage West has a responsibility to assist and encourage
the development of that talent"
-- Howard Pechet, Executive Producer of Stage West Theatre Restaurants.

CAEA is the professional association representing over 5,000 performers,
directors, choreographers and stage managers in Canada, who are engaged
in English-language live performance, including the stage, opera, ballet
and dance.
