This opera/ballet was long considered to be the crowning achievement of French music theatre. More than half a century after its premiere, Persée was chosen by Louis XV to open the new Royal Opera House at the Palace de Versailles, in celebration of the wedding of Marie Antoinette. Lully's Persée recounts the thrilling story of Perseus, son of Zeus and heroic vanquisher of the Gorgon Medusa. With the aid of the god Mercury, Perseus proceeds to slay Medusa and rescue the princess Andromeda from the sea monster to whom she is being sacrificed in an effort to appease Juno, the irate Queen of Heaven.

Featuring Artists of Atelier Ballet, Tafelmusik Baroque Orchestra and Chamber Choir.

Sung in French, with English and French surtitles
