AUDITIONS - TORONTO
------------------------------

BLUE BLAZES - a one man/ one woman show looking for its one woman.
This show will be part of the Summerworks festival, taking place August
5-15th. Eight shows, either at the Factory Theatre or Theatre
Passe-Muraille. Casting for the role of Shaka Merriweather.

Written and directed by Torquil Colbo, Produced by Patricia Levert,
starring Derek Forgie and ??

Shaka is an evangelical American who has founded her own religion based
on the curative power of electrical storms. She has personally been
struck by lightning 19 times, and believes it to be the ultimate
spiritual experience, not to mention good for all that ails you. She is
currently a fugitive from the law, as the U.S. government disagrees with
her. She has left a trail of smouldering corpses in her wake.

Age and race are very much up in the air. Looking for a charismatic
presence, whether that be commanding or alluring ( although in
personality Shaka is more bulldog than siren ) - it should be believable
that people have blindly followed you into annihilation. Rudimentary
guitar-playing ability would be an asset. I do mean rudimentary - you
wouldn't have to be that good

For an audition, bring your favourite monologue. Script of BLUE BLAZES
is available. Auditions will take place Friday May 7th, 8th and call
backs May 14th . Rehearsals to total 30 hours during the month of July.
( The show has a running time of 30 minutes )
