This unique two day  workshop is designed to take the performing artist
(dancer, actor , singer) through an evolved process of what Gerry
Trentham has coined the Cycles of Action).  Participants will discover
means to uncover meaningful material, invest in its development and
extend the work, through movement and voice, into new and unexplored
territory. Through an understanding of the elements involved in creating
compelling and honest action the performer will find new paths to
creating and developing performed work that attains a fuller range of
expressive action. Over the past twenty years Mr. Trentham has
specialized in the creation of dance/theatre works and has explored
movement and voice education as a means to transform and enhance ones
dance and theatre performance. 
Renowned artist and educator Gerry Trentham is one of Canada's most
progressive multi disciplinary artists.  He is also one of North
America's most innovative integrators of professional voice and movement
training.

2. MASK AND CLOWN INTENSIVE - CALGARY
--------------------------------------------------------

Games and exercises are used to awaken and encourage a sense of
pleasure, an awareness of one's immediate environment, and an honest
response to internal impulses and external events. Individual creativity
is explored with colour work and body work and the making and wearing of
six masks. 

Special guest teacher Karen Hines will be joining John for segments of
the workshop.

Dates:
Saturday, April 9 - Sunday, April 24
Class Times: 9.30 am - 5.30 pm
For the first 6 days, students should attend all class times. There is
some limited flexibility in the remaining 10 days. There will be one day
off. The final day is an optional clown jam.

Location: Calgary location to be announced.

Cost (All materials included:
$950.00 + GST = $1016.50
20% discount for early registration or CAEA members:
$760.00 + GST = $813.20

$250 deposit is required with registration.

3. CLASSICAL THEATRE LAB - TORONTO
-------------------------------------------------- 
Classical Theatre Lab

The Classical Theatre Lab was founded by Artistic Director, Peter Van
Wart, in 1998 and is aimed at mid-career actors who adore the Classics.
The Lab is a great opportunity to engage the Classics in challenging and
dynamic ways, emphasizing process over product.  Under the guidance of a
different theatre industry professional each week, participants have an
opportunity to present prepared scenes, monologues, poetry and sonnets.


Application: The application process for membership is the same as with
other classes at EST  you must submit a completed application form,
headshot and resume, along with a form of payment at the time of
application in order to be considered. Sign up soon to ensure your spot.
All applications subject to Artistic Director's approval.

4. SHAKESPEARE INTENSIVE - TORONTO
--------------------------------------------------- 

Shakespeare in the Rough hosts a Shakespeare Intensive with director
Michael Waller.

This workshop is designed for advanced students and professionals
looking to gain more experience with performing Shakespeare.

The workshop will consist of two intensive weekends (January 15/16 and
22/23) of exploring Shakespeare's text through work on his monologues.
During this time, you will learn to mine Shakespeare's text for
emotional truth, need, pace, character, performance clues and more. This
detailed work will give the actor new tools, confidence and a renewed
understanding of Shakespeare.

Dates: January 15, 16, 22, 23
Times: 1pm - 6pm each day
Cost: $200 ($150 for members of CAEA and Shakespeare in the Rough)

5. MEISNER ACTING TECHNIQUE WORKSHOP - TORONTO

WITH JOHN RIVEN
Sanford Meisner was co-founder of the Group Theatre who took
Stanislavsky's original theories and principles and introduced "Method"
acting to America.  Meisner's own philosophy is based on the creation of
real and truthful behaviour under imaginary circumstances.  The work
focuses on helping students get out of their heads and back into
trusting their gut instincts.  

John Riven has been teaching ongoing classes in the Meisner Acting
Technique in Toronto for over three years.  He is a graduate of the
Neighbourhood Playhouse where he studied under Sanford Meisner and
Richard Pinter. He was a founding member of the Shadowfax Theatre
Company in NYC.  

A new 6 week 10 class session will be held at Central Studios 680 Yonge
St. 2nd floor on Thursday evenings from 7:00pm - 10:00pm, starting on
January 13th until February 17th. 

The cost is $175 for Equity/ACTRA members
or $220 for non-union members.
Please note that a deposit will be required to reserve a spot in the
class.

6. IMPROV WORKSHOPS - HALIFAX 
--------------------------------------------
The Atlantic Advisory of CAEA and Theatre Nova Scotia will be offering a
two-day comprehensive workshop in Improv with well known
actor/writer/director Linda Kash (Waiting for Guffman, Best in Show,
Ernest Goes to Africa and She TV).

Workshop will take place Saturday, January 28th, and Sunday, January
29th, 2005 from 10 AM - 4 PM at the Halifax Feast Dinner Theatre space.
The fee is $75 for Equity members and $145 for the general public. 

Priority will be given to Equity members. Pre-registration and
prepayment is required. No one will be considered registered until
payment has been received. Class size is limited to 15. If you are
