VANCOUVER MEMBERS: URGENT HELP NEEDED FOR PAL Vancouver

If you require further information or clarification please check our
website: www.palvancouver.org; send an e-mail to info at palvancouver.org
or call Jane Heyman at 604-731-6832.

WHAT'S NEEDED:
PAL Vancouver urgently needs letters of support to demonstrate that the
PAL Project (affordable housing for Seniors in the Performing Arts) has
a broad base of community support. Please, write a letter of support
for PAL Vancouver saying why the project is important to you, the
community, and the City as well as any information you want about your
involvement with the performing arts in Vancouver and PAL Vancouver - as
a donor, patron, member or future resident.

Handwritten or typed letters on personal stationery, signed in blue ink
have the most impact.

Letters need to be received by City Hall no later than Friday March 19,
2004.
Please address your letter to
Mayor and Council
City Clerk's Office
City of Vancouver
453 West 12th Avenue
Vancouver, BC, V5Y 1V4

WHY WE NEED YOUR HELP:
For almost two years, PAL Vancouver has been working closely with the
City's Director of Housing, as well as the developer and architect for
Bayshore Gardens, to finalize plans for a beautiful PAL building at the
Bayshore site. However, these efforts, together with our fundraising,
outreach and education strategy, are not quite enough.

At the March 9th meeting of Vancouver City Council we anticipated
receiving approval from Council to finalize negotiations. However,
prior to the meeting, the City Clerk's office received notice requesting
a hearing for an alternate proposal for the Bayshore Gardens site from
another group. The intervening group (which had initially applied when
PAL was conditionally awarded the site) has also challenged PAL's
proposal, questioning PAL's achievements and commitments. As a result,
PAL's application has been deferred to a meeting of the City Services
and Budget Committee scheduled for Thursday, March 25th at 9:30 a.m.

The next week is crucial. Now is the time for action. Thank you for
your support!

Feel free to share this notice with any friends or colleagues you think
would also write a letter of support. Length doesn't matter, but the
demonstration of support from the arts community and the general public
will count a lot.

In order to help PAL track our support, please fax a copy of your letter
to 604-255-4367, send an
e-mail to info at palvancouver.org or simply let us know that you have sent
a letter.

If you require further information or clarification please check our
