WORKSHOP - TORONTO
------------------------------
# 1457 Advanced Contemporary Scene Study
Tues & Thurs 7-10 pm
Sept 21- Oct 14
8 classes
CAEA $280 Non-CAEA $350
Deadline for application: Sept 9

Instructor: Daryl Cloran
A workshop for experienced actors. Over the 8 sessions, we will dig
into scenes from great modern writers (both Canadian and International).
The workshop will explore diverse styles of contemporary writing -
everything from Mamet to Albee, Neil LaBute to Caryl Churchill, Adam
Pettle to Judith Thompson. This is not a "How to Act" Class. It's an
opportunity for a group of actors to crack open scenes from great
contemporary plays and bring them to life. A chance for actors to
challenge and stretch themselves in an environment of honest feedback
and encouragement. Scene partners will be assigned and participants
will prepare work for the first class. Rehearsal outside class time is
essential.

Classical Theatre Lab
"Instead of waiting for a rich TV job, you should get into the theatre
and work hard. Actors who tackle Shakespeare will be steeled to handle
every challenge they encounter. Because if you can do Shakespeare, you
can do any modern play they throw at you. But if you do TV for years,
you cannot necessarily do Shakespeare" - John Neville

The Classical Theatre Lab was founded by Artistic Director, Peter Van
Wart, in 1998 and is aimed at mid-career actors who adore the Classics.
The Lab is a great opportunity to engage the Classics in challenging and
dynamic ways, emphasizing process over product. Under the guidance of a
different theatre industry professional each week, participants have an
opportunity to present prepared scenes, monologues, poetry and sonnets.
Benefiting from the expertise of each Facilitator, actors will gain a
greater understanding of how to:
* Use Shakespeare and other Classical Texts to develop skills
and grow as an actor
* Discover the path towards relating the Classics to
contemporary experience, resulting in audience accessibility
* Find the truth of the scene or monologue and communicate it
through the words
Facilitators in the past have included: Peter Van Wart, Rod Ceballos,
Rosemary Dunsmore, Joseph Ziegler, Nancy Palk, William Webster, Michael
Shamata, RH Thomson, David Ferry, Jeannette Lambermont, Tedde Moore,
Kate Lynch, Seana McKenna, and others.

years past. Participants buy a three-month membership, which will allow
