WORKSHOP DIGEST FOR THE WEEK OF SEPTEMBER 17
---------------------------------------------------------------------

1. MEISNER ACTING TECHNIQUE
-------------------------------------------
John Riven is has been teaching ongoing classes in the Meisner Acting
Technique in Toronto for over three years. He is a graduate of the
Neighbourhood Playhouse where he studied under Sanford Meisner and
Richard Pinter. He is a founding member of the Shadowfax Theatre Company
in NYC. While directing and acting with Shadowfax, John began teaching
acting and eventually opened his own studio in Manhattan. One of his
more prominent former students, Doug Hutchison, went on to starring
roles in the films, The Green Mile, The Salton Sea and Sam and Me.

The Meisner Technique was developed by Sanford Meisner and is based on
some of the original theories and principles of the great Russian
teacher-director, Konstantin Stanislavsky, and his work with the Moscow
Art theatre. The Meisner Technique is a step-by-step procedure of
self-investigation for the actor-always-in-training. The work focuses on
helping students to gain access to what is inside themselves and getting
it out, then, slowly shifting the focus to a learning of the techniques
necessary to communicate with an audience. The emphasis is on each
student's personal truths, which will serve students throughout their
lives, whether in theatre, film or elsewhere. Meisner technique
concentrates on discovering the truth of any given moment through the
immediate connection and interaction between actors.

A new 6 week session be held at Central Studios on Sunday afternoons
from 2.00pm - 5.00pm, starting on October 3rd until November 7th.

The cost is $180 including GST for Equity/ACTRA members
or $225 including GST for non-union members.
Please note that a deposit will be required to assure a spot in the
class.
